In 1883 there were riots and rebellions in the country, which started by chance in Bistrica.
In Bistrica the revolt had completely local significance, whereas in the country it was a political struggle.
The municipality of Marija Bistrica had opened a school garden in terms of the law. For this garden a piece of municipal pasture was fenced off, where the villagers usually fed geese, because the pasture lay along the stream Bistrica. The villagers - of course only few of them - resisted, though they were in violation. The court in Zlatar sentenced them to prison. When they were beeing departed to the prison, they threatened the municipal government, which goverment reported and complained to Royal Goverment. They have fullied their threats. They returned from prison on Saturday evening, and as early as Sunday morning after an early mass, they  attacked at the municipal office and its leaders.
