How was the crown saved

The Hudek family is one of the oldest and the most prominent Bistrica's families. In the beginning of the 20th century they built an imposing building on the main square which was used as a hotel and as a general store. Except of the fact that they had an indostrious spirit, they also were the initiators of the cultural events and all of  the things that bring progress. As the  excellent photographers they managed to take photographs of Marija Bistrica through different historical moments, and they are doing the same thing even today.
After the difficult  years of the Second World War,  when a liberation came for many, for them came the time of the greatest life temptations. Persecuted for being members of the rich, they passed through the worst miseries of their life.
Today Mrs Višnja Mičuga, born Hudek, remembers with grief those years as well as the great strength of her mother to protect the children and survive until the return of their persecuted father. Reminded of her father, her eyes glimmered and the story began.
«It used to be a market place below the church, where today the Church on the Open stands, and next to the churcyard flew the stream Bistrica. The whole space was ideal for the cow pasture. We had a store on the square, and below the house, next to the churchyard, was our storehouse. My dad, Viktor Hudek, sometimes walked at night to check the storage for the danger of vermin. He carried a gun with him called «flobertica». One night during his round, just when he entered the storehouse and wanted to close the door, he heard a few quick steps. Then he peeked through the door and in front of him were two men. One of them carried a rucksack. When he greeted them, they started to run in fear which caused a doubt in him. He yelled after them to stop, after which they ran even faster. As they did not stop after the second warning, my dad fired in the air from flobertica and ran after them.Their shadows reflected in the stream water: he heard a splash, a rattle and some quiet curses as if they were trying to catch the balance and as if they wanted to find something quickly. As my dad was coming closer, the shadows were further and soon they disappeared. My dad stood confused long after and thought about the passed event.
On the second day in the morning the news was spread that the crown of Bistrica's Mother of God was stolen, but my dad did not relate that with the event of the previous night until after some years the crown was accidentally found. It stucked for the cow foot while she drank  water from the stream after the pasture. Even today the tracks of her foot are visible in the crown. Just then my father realised that before many years, he unknowingly had saved the crown of Bistrica's Mother of God from the thiefs which were running in front of the fire from his flobertica and lost their precious plunder in the stream.»
On the 250th anniversary of the rediscovery of the statue of the Virgin Mary, which was 7th July 1935., Zagrebian archbishop Antun Bauer crowned the miraculous statue with two anniversary crowns. One of them he put on the head of the Virgin Mary and with the other he crowned the head of the child Jesus. The crowns were made after the models of the old royal crowns and they are gifts of the Croatian people.
