Marian pilgrimage routes of Marija Bistrica incurred due to the needs of many pilgrims, nature and healthy life lovers, or just from the desire of exploring the various cultural and tourist destinations.
These miles – long routes also represent interconnection of cities and small towns, government and religious institutions that are situated along those routes.
Pilgrimages to Marija Bistrica have been continuous from the 1684 when the statue of Mary was dicovered and have not stop even in the most difficult historical moments of our country. Each year Marija Bistrica is visited by 800,000 visitors. The most important visitor was St. Father, Pope John Paul II who visited Marija Bistrica in 1998.
Passers are impressed by the natural environment of Marija Bistrica. Marija Bistrica is situated in a small valley surrounded by hills on all sides, and in the center of a small hill is dominated by the Church-Basilica of Mary that for centuries attracts pilgrims and gives them spiritual, cultural and universal life force. Visitors come here with different motives, and all have nearly identical the conclusion that this place radiates a special spirituality and they always lokk forward to come back. This is the reason why there are so many historical pilgrim routes to Marija Bistrica and that is why we want to connect with all small and major towns and cities that want to join us on these routes that will connect us to each other.
