Pensioners Association Marija Bistrica is an independent, voluntary, nonpolitical, humanitarian and non-profit organization.
It was founded in 1950, led by teacher Andrija Šalić. In 1973 management of Association was taken over by Julijana and Branko Brlek, and in 1984. management of Association was taken over by Josip Krajačić and Petar and Zlata Bogović. Zlata Bogović is today, with president Joseph Kovacic, the leadership of the Association. Until 2003 the Association was a subsidiary of Pensioners Association of Donja Stubica.
Objective of the Association is humanitarian work and recreation, and seeks to achieve the during the year in accordance with financial possibilities. Caring for elderly and disabled members of the Association is mainly done at Christmas, when the team members give modest gifts and spend a moment in conversation and having fun with them. Recreational activities are mainly related to the organization of excursions, sightseeing cultural and historical attractions of our country, but also to entertain and cheer up the members of Association.
Every first Friday of the month in cooperation with the Red Cross Society a check of blood pressure and blood sugar is organized.
Each year,on Statehood Day, 25 June, Pensioners Association Marija Bistrica, organizes, under sponsorship of Krapina - Zagorje County, Meeting of pensioners of Krapina - Zagorje County (cultural – artistic programme, Holy Mass, Stations of the Cross, refreshments).
Members of the Association actively participate in the work of other societies and associations in the area and are active in political life.
